In the agricultural data ecosystem different roles can be identified. Each with their own role and their own incentive to be part of the ecosystem. The list below reflects the roles outlined in the AgriDataSpace Policy Brief 2024.

FARMERS AND AGRICULTURAL PRODUCERS
Use digital services and produce information on agricultural practices and food production. Give their consent or permission to use their data produced on the farm.

DATA BROKERS AND SERVICE PROVIDERS
Provides the technological building block and digital service to secure and facilitate the exchange of data between parties.

TECHNOLOGY AND DATA PROVIDER
Provide digital services to farmers, agricultural entrepreneurs or other agricultural organisations

GOVERNANCE AND REGULATORY BODIES
Acts as both a data provider and a data user. Ensures that the data space rulebook is in line with national legislation. Key actors in the exchange of data related to the Common Agricultural Policy. Key actors for the dissemination of open data.

BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS
Acts as both a data provider and a data user. Leading the definition of new business use cases, especially for transnational trade.

MULTI-STAKEHOLDER COOPERATION
Acts as both a data provider and a data user. A leader that represents the needs of a specific stakeholder profile (farmers, agents, etc.).

RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS
Acts as both a data provider and a data user. Drives the implementation of case studies based on real production data.

FINANCIAL AND INSURANCE SERVICES
Acting mainly as a data user. The driving force behind the definition of indicators for financial and insurance services.
